The ArtistCori Compton, of St. Louis, discovered metals during her senior year at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville while studying Business, Art History and Studio Art. Since then, she has had an itch for metalsmithing that can't be scratched.
Cori is drawn to copper for its malleability and color (especially with a nice patina!) but pulls in brass, nickel, and the occasional stone - wherever the design takes her. She carefully brings each design to life with specialized saws, files, and precision tools to create perfect planes and curves. Most of her inspiration comes from the native Missouri plants in her own back yard, but she also draws from repeating motifs in the work of artists and architects outside of metals that she admires. |
